Bbats published

We just published a new site for Bbats Consulting & Projects, in the architecture area. We were waiting from this summer to hit the publish button, and the finally arrived this week. It's a lightweight interface, using javascript to enhance navigability. SEO optimization was took as a goal, using semantic mark up and respecting web standards to build a platform fully indexable by search engines. We build it using CakePHP as a framework, and the site is managed through a customized backend. You can read a complete project review here, and visit the site.

E-commerce site with Magento

We just finnished to build an online shop with Magento. Magento is a powerful platform that requires some knowledge behind to build your site. We just had some fun building this project for our friends of Zuk, the design is not made by Gimmicklab, this time was only coding.

Christmas Holidays

From December 24th to January 6th we are closing for holidays and taking a little break to enjoy this dates with family and friends. We wish you a happy new year full of work and interesting projects to be build. See you on 2010!

From now until Christmas

A little resume of our activity before Christmas hollidays. We are finishing different projects. In the internet area we are just making the final art and uploading content on bbats.es and we expect to go public on next week. Also we just started to build an online shop for Buzz Buzz Club, the deadline is before christmas and we are right on our way to get everything polished by this date. Hydroponic new advertising campaign will be out during december. We worked from the ground a new attitude, concept, advertising campaign and new online identity to fit new goals for the brand, growing every year. Lots of new stuff is coming here but we can't say much more unless that we are so excited about it. In the print area we are working with Autoescoles ECO to develop their corporate identity. it's a fresh concept for a driving school and it's getting so interesting. Release date on first week of december. Our machines are hot, more next week with some finished works.

Hydroponic Summer 2010 Photo Session

Ibai Acevedo

We just finnished a portfolio for photographer Ibai Acevedo. Now we are on the final step, uploading all the content and giving the final art to the site but you can have a slick preview of the platform. Ibai is a young and talented photographer who was working with us as a junior designer for three years and a half. Now he is developing a brilliant career based on his creativity, a deep knowledge of his equipment and great photoshop skills. At Gimmicklab we are so proud of having him in our team for such a long time and we are impressed but not surprised about how he is developing an unique style. Arturo on Osteopathy

Arturo just started a long way going to study osteopathy. As you can read in his blog post he is making a deep change, meanwhile we will try to adapt to the new situations, balancing time and adjusting roles and responsibilities inside the company, but mainly the company structure remains the same. We all know that Arturo is a great creative director and we all know that he will become great in osteopathy too. Go hard Maik!

We just published The Conquistadors Collective site. The Conquistadors are going to start on their around the world tour and this site comes to give you all the information about the people involved, the trip and the projects that they are going to be involved. We are on holidays

Green Dream Site

We just published before holidays the Green Dream site. A fully developed wordpress site that integrates an magazine blog and an online shop in a single backend. This project is a large wordpress development job and we tried to simplify everything with a friendly and elegant interface, with some plugins created on the way and more interesting, the client can just update their catalogue and manage the shop via their internal stock management system. We just planned a second iteration of this project that is starting here, we will work close with the Green Dream work to grow their online bussiness. We are starting some holidays until early september, but we have some projects almost finished. Look for The Conquistadors Collective, Bbats new site and just after holidays.

Sun and Projects

Quick update to talk about our next projects. Right next week in this sunny days, greendream.es will achieve a finished status and we'll publish the final version, coming with a full featured shop. Just before hollidays we'll release different projects. Bbats.es it's a Arquitect Consulting firm, the big brother of Barbera Arquitectos. We are just working on the concepts exposed in Barbera Arquitectos to show a strong connection between both sites. And also here comes Hydroponic. We are making a complete makeover, fresh style, new concepts to apply on a lot of productions. First coming the new site, advertising, designs... lot of stuff to build. We are really excited about publishing this projects just before hollidays. Working in the sun feels so good!

Mates Published

We just published the new Mates Site. It's an online shop, where you can choose the exclusive hand made shoes from the catalogue or just go ahead and design your own shoes. The customization tool is a web version that our previous customization tool, that you can find and use it to design you personal shoes at Mates shop. You can step deeply in their history through a series of pictures, where you can learn a little more from this brand borned in 1967. Here you can find our project resume. We were waiting so long to release this project, now that it's online we hope that you enjoy it.

Filipinos

During the weekend we published the Filipinos project. We pushed two sites, as a result of the work that we have been doing in collaboration with Filipinos and Publicis, here at Barcelona. We had been working on a new redesign of the site, with fresh look and new content accordingly with a new branding, look and feel, introducing the new spot and focusing in consumer opinion, through social connections and through the site. The new spot is promoted with a microsite that hosts an user generated application to build your own movie being the central star of the spot. In few steps you will be able to upload a picture, create a mask, adjust position, color, tone, brightness and you are done, you have your own movie to send it to your friends. Barbera Arquitectos Site

We just published a long awaited site, Barbera Arquitectos. It's a clean, solid and polished interface that translates the style of the studio into a website template. No innecessary elements across the navigation, just the useful ones. We build the site from the scratch with a Content Management System to edit every single page. Hiring a developer

We are looking for and expert senior web developer who likes to work in a young, active and successful team developing web platforms. You should be able to develop robust, solid and scalable structures using the most common languages and frameworks such as PHP, Javascript, Python, Ruby, etc. You should be familiar with repositories and more important understanding the importance of using them when you are working on a team with different coders. A interest and expertise in other environments it would be highly considered. Attention and consideration to web standards it's a must. We will not hire a developer who breaks someone else mark up when creating a snippet. The developer will work mainly focused starting a new web service but also commanding few commercial projects. It should be a responsible and pro-active person who loves working on the internet, agile with the new services and tendencies, communicative, loving learning everyday and sharing your knowledge with the rest of the team. Sticky Footer

We just wrote and article explaining how we deal with footers in our projects to achieve the effect that you can see for example in this site. Note that the footer is always sticked at the bottom of the page, no matters the size. Take a look and let us know what techniques do you use to deal with headers or footers.

Closing the year

We were working quietly lasts months, closing different projects before the end of the year and starting with some new as you can read in the current works box. We will welcome the year releasing two new websites in 2009 and we want to take this opportunity to wish a happy new year to everybody involved in our activities: clients, agencies, freelances and to our team who works so hard all over the year. Complete selection of work

Finally we got to upload all the selected portfolio, now available through the portfolio section in this site. It has been a hard job, since the Gimmicklab team has been super-productive from the start in September 03. We grew working hard and now we are glad to be able to share our complete work selection. We are not showing all our works as you can see in our Work Timeline, a page that reflects every little project in which we have taken part from the very first day. As you can see we have been working in more than 200 projects in 5 years. That is a huge volume of work that can only be achieved by passionate people who love their work. We are not including the works that are listed in '02 because they are the client contributions that Arturo and Cristian, founders of Gimmicklab, brought in to start our company. Our first project was Factorcity Site and since then we have learned and enjoyed both, designing and developing sites, brands, strategies and products for our clients. Taking a look at our Client List we are proud to show that most of our clients choose to work with us in more than once. Dex Import

We just released Dex Import Site, a build from scratch content management tool to publish an online catalogue for all kind of multi price stock. With a clean an flexible interface this site is builded in PHP, XHTML, CSS and Javascript and powered with the Cake Framework taking especial consideration in semantics to achieve a good SEO optimization. jovoto website released

Looks like we made it the re-design of the jovoto website. The main task Arturo went to work on in Berlin. Soon there will be a longer post commenting all the re-design and new features of the Jovoto website. To anyone whom already knows jovoto we invite you to have another look at the site and give us feedback, an to those of you whom don't know it just send us an email asking for an invitation or apply directly through the jovoto website.

At this moment there are some pretty interesting contests going on. Jovoto ads is open for ratings, Deutsche Bahn AG wants the community to develop a communicative guiding idea, a roof concept for all of Deutsche Bahn AG's measures and initiatives concerning sustainability. And very soon, there will be another interesting corporate design contest running.

September Sessions

Is not that we are still on Hollidays, pretty close to the opposite. We had been on the run since early September closing some projects. Next days we will announce the release of 3 commercial sites: Mates Shoes, Barbera Arquitectos and Dex Import plus the new Jovoto's redesign. As you know Arturo has been working lasts months on the new Jovoto interface, and it's going to be released during this weekend. More in the next days!

Working hard before Hollidays

We are working hard lasts weeks to finnish all the open projects before Hollidays. Yesterday we released the final version of the new Actimel website, the site is now completed with and antivirus promotion. From now we will keep maintaining the site. You can go and get a Panda for free. While Arturo is working on the Jovoto project he is also developing a Corporate Identity for a Law firm. The team is also working in 3 internet projects: Mates (to be relesead on July), Barbera Arquitectos (also on July) and Dex Import We are specially excited about releasing the Mates site, because we are making a Internet version of this application to customize the nice hand made shoes that they sell that we are willing to show online to everyone. Hydroponic in Jovoto

At Gimmicklab we have been designing the Hydroponic collection for about 8 years. Lots of designers, artists and illustrators have been collaborating in this process of lifting a Surf, Skate and Snowboarding brand in Barcelona. Our aim has always been to deliver highly creative stuff for their collections and communication. That's why we have always involved very good creatives in every process, such as Quito Leal and Mauricio Alarc

We won the Jovoto logo contest!

Jovoto is an online creative platform for designers, illustrators and any one with an artistic or creative touch that wants to challenge his creativity. The system is pretty simple, they set up a contest and the users submit their own ideas, rate and comment other's ideas, and it's up to the community to decide who wins the prize. The first contest they had was to design their logo which gimmicklab won with the logo design made by Arturo.

Gimmicklab wordpress theme

At Gimmicklab we use wordpress as a blogging tool for our personal blogs. We just finished the theme that we are going to use. The design comes from Arturo and it's a simply and leightweight elastic interface built in XHTML and CSS. We tried to keep it as semantic as posible in every way, and the result is a clear marck up that gives correct meaning to each items. Dew to the use of web standards this theme is compatible with all the browsers, we only need just a little IE6 hack (height: 1%) to adjust the layout... it's the benefit about using web standars, at the end it makes your code simpler. This theme also includes the avatar function added in last worpdress version and it's also widget enabled. Soon we are going to add the prologue function, so stay tuned! In a future posts we will include a "how to" explaining how we are setting up a wordpress blog, building a theme from the scratch and taking care of security in your server. You can take a look at our personal blogs from our contact page, soon will made available this theme for everybody.

Still updating

As you can see we are still updating the site. It's a hard work filling the database with all the content but right now you can enjoy the whole website portfolio. Coming next is the rest of our work, soon you will be able to see in what our graphic department had been working on since we started 4 years ago. Our apologies if you find any mistakes, and we hope you like our work.

As we have said before, we have been putting together all the work we have been doing in the past 5 years and that's a lot of work! Then we want to write a comment on each one of the projects and this is even taking us more time. So you might see that many comments are brief, not accurate or have some... spelling mistakes. We are terribly sorry about that and we will be correcting as fast as we can.

Almost finished

After five years of hard work, long trips and lots of experiences in Gimmicklab, we are finally getting our website ready. It's not an easy task, we have lots of work to gather, upload and comment. But we believe that very soon, most of it will be up. So if you see that a project has no text or no image just be patient, it will be there soon! We also have to fix lots of bugs in the front and the back-end, polish some texts and redo some jpgs. So the site will be finished as soon as possible.
